Designed for the endurance rider who simply prefers a short. With thoughtful details like a yoga-inspired waistband to eliminate uncomfortable pressure and a seamless silicon leg band so they stay put. The 8.5" Inseam makes for a versatile, mid-thigh fit.
Many view shorts as the novice kit, a first step on the way to bibs. But our community was saying something different… They aren’t beginners; they’re out there riding centuries and multi-day tours, mile after mile. But they prefer the easy in and out of a short without losing any of the technical benefits of a high-performance bib.
- The 8.5" Inseam makes for a versatile, mid-thigh fit.
- The Essential Short features the same fan-favorite chamois as Machines’ Endurance Bib. It’s graded for 6+ hours in the saddle, bacteriostatic to inhibit infections, and wide enough for most women’s sit bones.
- The yoga-inspired waistband is revolutionary: compressive enough to stay up without sagging, but soft enough to eliminate elastic bands that dig when in the riding position.
- New seamless leg bands stay put without squeezing.
- Machines’ iconic paneled construction combines style and a flattering sleek silhouette.
- Highest quality European fabric is compressive, moisture-wicking, and silky soft to the touch.

To get the longest life out of your garment, we recomend washing in cold water with a mild detergent and hanging it to dry. If you need to toss it in the dryer in a pinch, that's okay! Just keep this to a minimum. Overtime, heat can degrade the yar, resulting in lost compression and durability.
All orders are shipped free within the US, and will include a pre-paid return label for easy returns and exchanges.
If ordering from outside of the US, be sure to check local duties and taxes! Machines does not cover this cost and rates vary country to country.

As always, we put fit first and this produt was developed to perform for every body shape, with sizing from X-Small through XXX-Large.
Our yoga-inspired waistband hugs the midsection, without pinching, for a comfortable ride.
For cycling bibs and shorts, the HIP MEASUREMENT is the most crucial factor. Measure around the WIDEST POINT of the hips/bum. If you are between sizes or petite (5'3" or under), we recommend SIZING DOWN for a compressive fit. A snug fit is crucial to performance. Check out our FIT GUIDE for more detailed instructions, or pop your measurements into the fit calculator above for a personalized recommendation! (Please note, the fit guide requires chest, waist and hip measurements.)
My first pair of MFF shorts and I truly do love them! The compression is AMAZING! I carry my weight in my butt and thighs and while the measurement chart said a Large, I might have been better in an XL.
As reference, I am 5'5" tall and yo-yoing between 165 and 170 lbs.
Anyways, this weekend I was chatting with a friend in her yard and her dog lightly nipped at me a few times, then the dog came in and bit right on my shorts at the thigh! My first thought was "NOOOOOO, NOT MY NEW SHORTS!!!!" but when I looked down there was not a tear, hole or snag but when I rubbed my hand across the area I could feel the skin raised! Nothing to show dog teeth broke the skin! No joke! I have quite a wound, but the shorts are unharmed! Whew!
Only reason I don't give them a 5 is because of the chamois. It chafes a bit more at the crease of my leg and lady parts than a couple of my other shorts. I feel like the 'wings' on the side of the pad are a bit wide and bunch a bit. But I also realize that is how I am built, and others rave about how awesome they are and based on how I feel about everything else, I believe them! I will eventually buy another pair because they just feel and look so good! And who knows, the more fit I get, the more that chamois and those wings may not bother me! :-)
Love the fit and feel of these shorts-super smooth and sleek feeling! I have a long torso and the high waist is perfect!
My favourite are the legs-no more sausage thighs! Tried on another brand the other day and said ‘No! Going with MFF!’
I usually only wear bibs, because I hate the feeling of the waistband on shorts cutting into my stomach. That's not an issue at all with these, they are cut so comfortably around my stomach that I barely feel them at all, even if I'm very bloated. They also don't cut in my thighs at all, which is another miracle. I legitimately couldn't feel them on my legs or stomach at all when I did a ride. My one issue is that I found them a bit hard to pull back on mid-ride. The fabric stuck to my skin, because of sweat I guess, and I don't have that issue with my other bibs. The chamois was comfortable on my butt because it seems wider than other shorts. I did have some slight pressure on my sensitive areas, but that may have been my saddle. Still a large improvement from my Rapha shorts - my sit bones hurt for a day after riding in those.
Love the essicial bike short. I’m new to “real”cycle clothing. Like many other things, having the right tool, or in this case short makes a huge difference in comfort. The fit is great!
I was concerned about the fit with my thighs, mine are on the on the larger size, but after a long ride they didn’t creep up my leg and were not at all tight or uncomfortable.
A big plus, is the difference having padding on my bum makes!
Thank you for making my ride more comfortable.
P.S. I’m 65, not exactly a spring chick.
These were my first 'splurge' in cycling apparel, and I don't regret it for a second. I had been eyeing MFF since I started getting back into cycling about a year ago. I had been getting by with budget gear like Black Bibs, which are fine for a short Zwift ride. But these MFF shorts are flattering AND great for longer distances. I love the smooth seamless leg and flat 'yoga-style' waistband. Now if they'd just come out with some more colors please!! :)
