Designed for the endurance rider who simply prefers a short. With thoughtful details like a yoga-inspired waistband to eliminate uncomfortable pressure and a seamless silicon leg band so they stay put. The 8.5" Inseam makes for a versatile, mid-thigh fit.
Many view shorts as the novice kit, a first step on the way to bibs. But our community was saying something different… They aren’t beginners; they’re out there riding centuries and multi-day tours, mile after mile. But they prefer the easy in and out of a short without losing any of the technical benefits of a high-performance bib.
- The 8.5" Inseam makes for a versatile, mid-thigh fit.
- The Essential Short features the same fan-favorite chamois as Machines’ Endurance Bib. It’s graded for 6+ hours in the saddle, bacteriostatic to inhibit infections, and wide enough for most women’s sit bones.
- The yoga-inspired waistband is revolutionary: compressive enough to stay up without sagging, but soft enough to eliminate elastic bands that dig when in the riding position.
- New seamless leg bands stay put without squeezing.
- Machines’ iconic paneled construction combines style and a flattering sleek silhouette.
- Highest quality European fabric is compressive, moisture-wicking, and silky soft to the touch.

To get the longest life out of your garment, we recomend washing in cold water with a mild detergent and hanging it to dry. If you need to toss it in the dryer in a pinch, that's okay! Just keep this to a minimum. Overtime, heat can degrade the yar, resulting in lost compression and durability.
All orders are shipped free within the US, and will include a pre-paid return label for easy returns and exchanges.
If ordering from outside of the US, be sure to check local duties and taxes! Machines does not cover this cost and rates vary country to country.

As always, we put fit first and this produt was developed to perform for every body shape, with sizing from X-Small through XXX-Large.
Our yoga-inspired waistband hugs the midsection, without pinching, for a comfortable ride.
For cycling bibs and shorts, the HIP MEASUREMENT is the most crucial factor. Measure around the WIDEST POINT of the hips/bum. If you are between sizes or petite (5'3" or under), we recommend SIZING DOWN for a compressive fit. A snug fit is crucial to performance. Check out our FIT GUIDE for more detailed instructions, or pop your measurements into the fit calculator above for a personalized recommendation! (Please note, the fit guide requires chest, waist and hip measurements.)
Great news, everyone! We've done it! We've found the holy grail of bike shorts. I got to take these out for the first time last night and could not be happier with the fit and feel. At the top of the ride while we took a break for some water and the view, my friend asked "how are those new shorts" and I said "wow. I haven't thought about my butt or my hoo-ha a single time on this ride". That's how supportive and form-fitting these were. Love them, can't wait for many more miles together.
After realizing that I'd been riding the wrong width saddle for 20 years, I bought these shorts specifically for the wide chamois. This chamois actually allows my sit bones to rest on the thick padding (as opposed to being on/off the edges of narrower chamois). The chamois also fits much better with my 155cm saddle. I wanted to buy the MFF bibs but got these shorts as they were out of stock.
I took these out of the package and went straight out for a 65-mile mountain bike ride, and a few days later, a 3-day bikepacking trip. Here are other initial thoughts:
- Compression is A+.
- Fit is flattering and definitely slimming.
- Wide chamois
- Really nice in temps <80 degrees
- The waistband rolls. Pretty annoying but not a dealbreaker.
- Chamois chafes more than my others. Might be due to the pad being too wide in places it doesn't need to be?
- Shorts held in a lot of heat and moisture in the 80-105 degree temp. range. Not going to be my go-to hot-weather short.
I'm 5'10" and 143 lbs, for reference.
This is the best cycling short I have ever had, and the only one I wear now. Great fit and design, so comfy. Ordering and other pair or two!
The shorts are comfortable and the leg bans are great, however the fit is not the best for my body size. I am 2xl (250ish and 5’3” waist 37 hips 55) and have a smaller waist than hips so the waist band rolls down while riding. I have major camel toe when wearing these which I don’t have with the bibs. I use these to commute to work so I wanted shorts to be able to change quickly. I will continue using these as they get the job done, but I do wish they looked better on me.
I have been riding for years and always hated how expensive cycling gear was. A friend of my suggested the bibs which I am not a fan of in general. The shorts came out and I finally pulled the trigger to purchase. Worth every penny! Plus the feel and fit are great. I ordered in my normal size.
