With all the excitement surrounding today's Tour de France stage through the cobbles, maybe it's a good thing that the Giro Rosa Stage went as expected for fear of racing fever overload.

The group averaged 42km/h (26mph) for most of the race making it difficult for riders to create a successful break.  Attempts were made in hopes of crosswinds blowing the peloton apart, but in the end, winds were not strong enough to damage the field.

As the girls came into the final sprint, a 'surprise' left hand turn startled a few riders causing a moment of chaos.  In the end, Marianne Vos took the win giving her a 10 second bonus, Wiggle Honda's Giorgia Bronzini placed second, and Ale-Cippolini's Shelley Olds placed 3rd.

Today's win increases Marianne Vos' lead to 31 seconds over second place.  Last year's winner, Mara Abbot remains in 11th with a gap of 2:54 Tomorrow the mountain stages begin and are expected to shake things up.
